Subject: Scottish Borders residents urged to access free online library resources

I’m e-mailing you with my libraries hat on as we have been working behind the scenes to improve our online offering, which might be of interest to the BANG community and also the groups that you support via the Bridge. Although we have had to close the doors of our libraries, our team have been working remotely and doing everything they can to ensure communities in the Scottish Borders have access to good quality online reading material and resources.  We are actively encouraging all borrowers to take advantage of our fantastic online offering which is completely free (a lot of people aren’t aware of this). It only takes a few minutes to join our online library and receive access a range of e-books, e-audio books, comics and magazines. Our digital services can be used on a lap-top, i-pad, tablet or downloaded via the apps a phone.  We have also produced a really useful “how to guide” on our website which guides you through the process, which we have tried to make as simple as possible https://www.liveborders.org.uk/culture/libraries/elibrary/

We have boosted our comic offering – over 1500 titles to choose from and we offer many popular maga1zines e.g. BBC Good Food, best, Closer, Good Housekeeping, all completely free as some people will be really struggling at the moment. If people do get stuck, they can call Live Borders (St Mary’s Mill, Selkirk) on 01750 726400 during office hours or e-mail libadmin@liveborders1.org.uk and someone will be able to help.  Also, one of the best kept secrets of a library membership is access to SCRAN which gives access to more than 480K images, videos and audio files on culture/human history from archives, galleries and museums across Scotland and the UK. Again, this is free with a Live Borders Library Membership – https://www.liveborders.org.uk/culture/libraries/elibrary/eresources/

If you need any more information or would like to discuss further, then please let me know.

Best wishes,

Lisa Denham
