Chasing Ice
Dir: Jeff Orlowski
2012, 74 mins, US
National Geographic photographer, James Balog, installed
cameras in Alaska and other western sub-Arctic locations
to record how glaciers behave over time. His findings were
alarming. In the time-lapse sequences derived from
approximately 5 years of filming we see vast ice shelves
falling off frozen cliffs which had previously been
considered permanently frozen. This film is visually
stunning and its message about the speed at which the
glaciers are eroding is a serious contribution to the global
warning debate.
